This summer, 11 students from Evergreen and Highline high schools had the opportunity for hands-on experience with skilled trades workers in fields such as sheet metal, plumbing, pipe-fitting and HVAC. They participated in the Heavy Metal Summer Experience (HMSE), thanks to a partnership with McKinstry.
High school students and recent graduates aged 15-19 attended the program twice a week for six weeks.
The students completed hands-on projects working alongside craft professionals. They also had the chance to tour facilities and explore apprenticeship training opportunities. Upon graduation, students took home all the tools and gear they received at the start of the program.
The Heavy Metal Summer Experience aligns with our strategic plan goals of innovative learning and ensuring that students are future ready. We look forward to seeing where these career-connected learning experiences take our students.
