[MUSIC PLAYING] Hello, Highline. Well, the '21-'22 school year is underway, and what a joy it is to see so many of our students back in our school buildings. Amidst all the excitement, though, I know that there are many questions and concerns, especially around the health and safety of our students, staff, and families.

I want to assure you that each of our schools has a detailed action plan outlining all of our procedures and protocols for making sure that our school environments are safe and healthy ones. In addition, across all of our schools and central office, we will continue to follow guidance from the Department of Health, always keeping health and safety at the forefront of everything that we do this year. And that includes wearing masks, which we will all be doing.

And in the spirit of doing everything we can to keep our Highline community healthy, we will be sponsoring vaccination clinics this week. These clinics will be for students, staff, and families. And I ask that you go to the website to look for details on dates and times, and help us spread the word because our theme this year is Team Highline. We are one team, and there's only one opponent. And that's the virus. And by staying united and working together, we can and will have a safe, happy, and healthy school year.

Hard as it is to believe, this is my 10th year serving as your superintendent here in Highline. And as I announced in my end-of-year message in June, it will also be my last. I've made the decision that it is time for me to move on and for Highline to have a new leader. So the school board will be working with a search firm to find who that lucky leader will be. And you, all of you-- students, staff, families, members of the community-- will have opportunities to weigh in on what you want to see in that leader. And I hope that you will participate.

I want you to know, though, this isn't goodbye. I am here for the year. And up until my very last day, I will continue to give you my all and I will continue to work alongside you, committed like never before to delivering on our shared Highline promise to know each of our students by name, strength, and need so they graduate prepared for the future they choose. Here's to a wonderful school year together. Thank you, Highline.
